This book deals extensively with difficult issues in quantum physics, especially on the difference and incompatibility between and the ontological implications of Bohr’s complementarity and Heisenberg’s uncertainty. This is an important, ambitious, readable, risk-taking, and very smart book, one to savor and grow with. Ever wanted to know about the Stern-Gerlach apparatus, or the details of quantum eraser experiments? For this reason, according to Barad, agential realism is useful for any kind of feminist analysis, even if the connection to science is not apparent. I find myself spending an inordinate amount of time trying to keep track of her sentence fragments and trying to guess or look up what the next niche adjective truly means.
This view of knowledge provides a framework for thinking about how culture and habits of thought can make some things visible and other things easier to ignore or to never see.
Still, one critique to answer to is that although the author states hafway this book is understandable by anyone, the language of choice is often a wooden one, rigid baraad filled with identical repetitions of the same overall mewting, agential realism, kkaren is itself presented as clear as possible since it is first mentioned.
There’s univrse a fascinating, 2 or 3-page section toward the end of the book about the wholeness of the universe that was a highlight of the book. Barad presents an account of reality she calls agential realism.
